My Amazing Summer
This summer I went on two amazing trips. One to New Brunswick by myself, and the other with my family – starting in Toronto, and ending in Quebec City.
For this post I’m only going to write about my first trip. My summer started with an exciting and interesting adventure. The Camp was called Camp Magauadavic and I was going to be there for a month, on the east coast of Canada.
We got to Fredericton at midnight and were waiting in the airport for our homestay family to pick us up. We were with the homestay family for two days then we went to the Camp. I was so excited to meet all the new people and see the Camp!
The night we got there we went to the lodge and met everyone. There were thirteen countries all together. There were five people from each country – a leader, and the 11-year old student delegates. The kids came from eleven countries, including Canada, China, Brazil, France, India, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, and the United States. Five JC’s, or Junior Councillors, were also there – two from Algeria and Australia, and the other three from Canada and the USA.
The JC’s were people who came and helped with organizing the Camp and activities. The activities could be games, writing or talking activities and were always based on something that we would learn about – diversity, sustainability, conflict resolution and human rights. Each day we had four activities about these themes and occasional National Nights.
National Nights were the countries chance to share their traditional dances, clothing, and languages. Also, we got to have a traditional dinner or meal. For example, on our National Night, we had pancakes with maple syrup for dinner and after dinner we did a skit about our national animals, and then had maple cookies and ketchup chips.
I can’t really say I had a favourite because they were all so interesting and cool, but some things I liked were:
- for Italy’s, we made pizza dough,
- for Brazil’s, we got to play a very cool game,
- for Mexico’s, we got to hit a piñata, and
- for Philippines, they did a dance called Tinikling.
The greatest thing about my trip was meeting all the new people from all over the world. Here is a picture of us all – these people, I will never forget.
And I hope I will get to do it again!
